Crikey! Rare Bird Attracts Hundreds in UK

Earlier this evening, my dad informed me of a rare bird sighting he viewed on BBC World.

A first for the U.K.!! An Eastern Crowned Warbler was found by a birder in a South Tyneside quarry.

Video of an interview with the birder that discovered the Asian warbler can be found on the BBC site.

And yes (to answer your question), I would drive an hour or two to observe a rare bird sighted in Ontario.

  1. Glad you posted the links, the adreniline surge created by rare birds is fascinating! (I say that as a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher sits about an hour and a half north of me - maybe I can chase it tomorrow!). Anyway, I read about the discover of this bird on the Wings Birding Blog, a fascinating story!
    It's at: http://wingsbirds.com/blog
(look for the post from October 23, 2009).

  2. Mike,

Thanks for the Wings Birding Blog link (try saying that 3 times fast). I have yet to experience being elbow to elbow with 500 birders. If you go chasing Scissor-tailed Flycatchers tomorrow, good luck.
